Observations from Hall of Fame game
1) The Raiders' first-team defense had it jammed right down their throats by Philadelphia's starting offense. Donovan McNabb & co. looked very good, while Oakland looked like a last-place defense.
2) Eagles backup running back Reno Mahe has had a strong camp thus far, and he was the most impressive offensive player on the field last night.
3) Philadelphia 's third-team running back Bruce Perry, who got hurt late in the game, needs to carry the ball with some passion. He was easily stripped twice by the Raiders.
4) Jeff Garcia was horrendous and looked no better than he did in Detroit last season.
5) Oakland backup quarterback Andrew Walter looked scared in the pocket all night long, constantly displaying happy feet and missing recievers badly.
6) Raiders backup linebacker Gerald Irons looked very good in his time on the field.
7) Oakland wideout Will Buchanon, who was listed as 5th team on the depth chart heading into the game, was impressive and should make this team.
8) The second team defensive line of the Eagles, especially second-year pro Juqua Thomas, was strong, making this a depth-filled area.
9) Placekickers David Akers (55-yard field goal) and Sebastian Janikowski (51 & 50 yard field goals) were tremendous and appeared to be in midseason form already.
10) Oakland head coach Art Shell’s commitment to on-field discipline and the little things, such as eliminating dumb penalties, seems to be having some success. Aside from defensive end Kevin Huntley’s senseless 15-yard roughing the passer call, Oakland had just four penalties for 25 yards.
