 Eric Turner

Oakland Raiders
Safety #29
College: UCLA
Rookie Yr: 1991
Ht., Wt.: 6'1", 215
Contract Status: Inactive
NFL Exp.: 10
Born: September 20, 1968 in Ventura, CA

Eric Turner was Oakland Raiders defensive back who played ten seasons in the NFL following a remarkable college career at UCLA. He was tied for league lead in interceptions (9) in 1994; recorded 30 career interceptions and 789 tackles in the NFL; earned All-America honors at UCLA where he ranks fourth in career interceptions and tackles.

Turner was the second overall pick in the 1991 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, the highest draft position for a defensive back in league history. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1994 (and again in 1996) after tying for the league lead with nine interceptions, including one he returned 93 yards for a touchdown.

Turner played six seasons with Cleveland/Baltimore before signing with the Oakland Raiders as a free agent before the 1997 season. He led the team in tackles his first year with 111, but was limited to just six games in 1998 because of a foot injury and missed the final six games of last season with a calf injury.

He died on May 28, 2000 caused by complications of abdominal cancer - he was 31.
