The Oakland Raiders, the Team of the Decades, will broadcast their upcoming October 22 home game versus the Arizona Cardinals in Navajo through an agreement with KTNN 660 AM. This year's broadcast will mark the third time that a Raiders game is being aired in Navajo. Two Raider games in 2005 - versus Denver on October 15 and on December 31 against the New York Giants - were called in Navajo.
"Ya'at'eeh Navajo Nation aa'doo' ahxe'hee'," (Hello Navajo Nation and thank you) said Raiders Chief Executive Amy Trask. "We again embrace the opportunity to unite the Raider Nation with the voice of the Navajo Nation. We salute the Navajo Nation and look forward to another season of Raider Football together. The Raider fan base is global and we are committed to reaching our fans throughout this country and around the world in a variety of languages and through a variety of multi-media options."
L.A. Williams and Ray Tsosie, both award winning newscasters, will call the action for KTNN.
Williams, KTNN's Sports and Professional Rodeo Director, began her broadcasting career with KTNN in 1993 and since then has broadcast a variety of sports including football, basketball and volleyball. Williams recently brought home a gold medal for Outstanding Media Coverage at the North American Indigenous games in Denver.
Tsosie, who is considered a Navajo Nation radio icon, was named outstanding newscaster in 1999 by the Arizona Broadcasting Association for his work in broadcasting Navajo news. Tsosie burst upon the broadcasting scene when he took the opportunity to host the morning show on the 50,000-watt KTNN 660 AM.
The Silver and Black has broadcast every regular season game in Spanish for the past five years. In addition, the Silver and Black offers exclusive online content in Spanish at www.raidersenespanol.com and in 2004 became the first NFL team to publish original content in four languages, adding Chinese and German at www.raidersinchinese.com and www.raidersingerman.com.
KTNN, "The Voice of the Navajo Nation," broadcasts a 50,000-watt clear channel signal from its Window Rock, Ariz., studio that reaches the entire western United States and northern Mexico.
